REVIEW: Can you find your way back home after becoming lost in another galaxy? Let’s take a solo trip into “Solus:Lost”!

Gameplay:

A fun puzzly solo game that is the very definition of easy to learn but difficult to win. Battle enemy ships and bosses, find ship upgrades and crewmates, and try to make your way home before your ship is destroyed or space-time dilation makes you die of old age!

Start with two tracking cards and cubes that track age & ship damage. Game play literally consists of choosing one of two face down cards and resolving the action. Then replace the one chosen with a new face down card from the deck.

Easy enough, right? Except the resolution can involve ship battles, boss fights, finding equipment or crew-mates, dealing with infestation or strange cosmic phenomena. You won’t know until u flip. Then what will you do? Fight? Run? Sacrifice ship health, or years of your life?

Gain the 4 artifacts and homelinks needed to find your way home to win, but do *not* expect it to be easy.

Thoughts - good:

To be such a simple game Solus: Lost will keep you on the edge of your seat. It requires critical thinking, problem solving, and keeping an eye on short-term gains versus long-term goals. Many solo games don’t have this level of depth or exciting game play.

Thoughts - not as good:

Nitpicking maybe, but we felt here were a few cards that need some tweaking. A ship upgrade offers +2 on all attacks, but is that to the attack roll or the damage? An enemy ship ages you +20 if defeated, but running only ages +10 years so why fight it? A player card with damage tables would be helpful as well.

Verdict:

We do recommend Solus: Lost for an exciting easy to learn, easily transportable solo game. It won’t take tons of time or table space but it will give you a thrill ride and difficult time trying to beat it. That’s a very good thing.
